The base chair of the Moscow State Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics, and Automation

Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the Moscow State Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics, and Automation have chairs based at the N. N. Andreyev Acoustics Institute. The main purpose of these chairs is the education of graduate students specializing in acoustics. In addition to the basic theoretical education, the students take part in the real research projects carried out at the institute. The part of work completed by a student becomes his graduate project.

"Physical and Applied Acoustics"
Chair: professor N. A. Dubrovsky

The chair was established in 1955. The main purpose is the education of top-level acousticians. Among the professors who worked at the department, there were such prominent scientists as L. A. Chernov, M. A. Isakovich, L. D. Rosenberg, and V. S. Grigor'ev. Over many years, the chair was headed by L. M. Brekhovskikh. The total number of acousticians having graduated from this chair is about 200 (most of them being specialists in the field of ocean acoustics). Most of the scientists now working at the chair are its graduates. In the last few years, the chair shows a tendency to widen the variety of research projects offered to the graduate students.

Main courses of lectures given to the students at the chair:

In addition to the basic theoretical education, the students take part in the real research projects carried out at the institute. The part of work completed by a student becomes his graduate project.

  • Acoustics of the ocean and atmosphere - Dr.Sc. (Phys. and Math.) E. A. Kopyl
  • Fundamentals of acoustics - PhD. (Phys. and Math.) M. A. Mironov
  • Waves in continuous media - Prof. S. A. Rybak
  • Nonlinear elastic waves - Dr.Sc. (Phys. and Math.) I. B. Esipov
  • Acoustic measurements - Prof. L. M. Lyamshev
  • Acoustic fields in randomly inhomogeneous media and methods of solving inverse problems - Dr.Sc. (Phys. and Math.) V. V. Borodin
  • Hydrodynamics - PhD. (Phys. and Math.) V. V. Goncharov
  • Waves in layered media - PhD. (Phys. and Math.) V. M. Kurtepov

According to the educational principles of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the major part of educational courses for the students of the third year and over is given at the base institutes - the N. N. Andreyev Acoustics Institute or the Shirshov Oceanology Institute. The students can select the subject of their further studies among the following areas of research: architectural acoustics, bioacoustics, nonlinear acoustics, acoustical monitoring, acoustics of liquid crystals, acoustics of new materials, photoacoustics, acoustooptics, and hydroacoustics. In their fourth year, the students start their own research projects under the supervision of the leading researchers of the base institute. Most of the graduate students are able to continue their work independently. The graduate projects usually result in scientific publications. The education at the chair is completed in six years.

"Acoustic Information Systems"
Chair: professor N. A. Dubrovsky

The base chair of the Moscow State Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics, and Automation was established in 1971 to educate engineers - researchers and designers - for the development of acoustic instruments and systems.

The students specialize in the following areas:

  • acoustics of the ocean and atmosphere
  • hydroacoustic instruments and systems
  • audio engineering
  • methods and means of acoustic noise and vibration control - acoustic and medical instrument making
  • ultrasonic engineering and technology

The special courses in acoustics are delivered to the students by the leading scientists from the N. N. Andreyev Acoustics Institute:

  • Dr.Sc. (Phys. and Math.) A. D. Lapin
  • Dr.Sc. (Phys. and Math.) V. F. Kazantsev
  • Dr.Sc. (Phys. and Math.) V. B. Stepanov
  • PhD.   (Phys. and Math.) I. P. Goliamina
  • PhD.   (Phys. and Math.) O. P. Galkin
  • PhD.   (Eng.) A. A. Dogadov
  • PhD.   (Phys. and Math.) F. I. Kryazhev
  • PhD.   (Eng.) L. O. Makarov
  • PhD.   (Phys. and Math.) A. V. Furduev

The education of young engineers includes the practical work with modern computational means and unique experimental equipment. The fourth-year students begin participating in various research projects in different fields of acoustics. The graduate projects correspond to the future professional occupations of the graduates. The education at the chair lasts 5 years and 6 months.
